Reclaim Our Land from Brahminical and Patriarchal forces

A seminar, entitled “Brahminism & Patriarchy” was organised by the DDKRF at Jadavpur University in Kolkata on Sept 24 2024. The seminar was attended by a cross section of students, activists and intellectuals from not only Kolkata but also the districts of Bengal. The talks were in Bengali while the one in English was translated.

The speakers were :

Prof Samir Karmakar of Jadvapur University who spoke on “Displacement and the resulting loss of their language; Struggle for their self-respect”.

Jiban Kumar Sarkar: Activist writer and school teacher, spoke on the Dalit movement in Bengal: A Critical Perspective

Prof Maroona Murmu: Prof Jadavpur Universality, who spoke to the Question of Marginalisation and the question of Gender equality.

Upmma Nirjharini : PhD and Research scholar spoke on Gender Question in academic Institutions.

Bonhihotri Hazra: Activist & Researcher: Gender Question in this sub-continent – where are we stuck, & Anuradh’s teachings and a search for an alternative.

Kobad Ghandy: Activist and Researcher : spoke on Brahminical Aggression, Corporate Loot and search for an Alternative.

 

The meeting was chaired by retired professor Amit Bandyopadhyay. It was concluded with a question-and-answer session. In this Seminar two books of Anuradha Ghandy were released: One was a reprint of the book Scripting the Change (Rs. 500); the second was a rare writing discovered amongst her papers entitled “Women Struggles in India” (Rs.250)
There were two book stalls at the entrance to the hall – one run by Counter Era and the other by Bakcharcha. The first had books sold in both Bengali and English while the second had books only in Bengali.
