Delimitation is now a powerful weapon in the hands of BJP ruled central government to retain its power in next term too. BJP’a all crooked communal strategies in the general elections failed in all 5 Southern states. So to control and command directly these states it selected the delimitation shortcut. If this is implemented the way BJP anticipated, the result would be treacherous. The representation of Southern states would be reduced drastically. No significant value for their votes and seats in the central Government formation.
National parties can come to power even though they do not get one seat from the South. The present discrimination for the south would be severe. The disparity widens more and more. They not only lose the share from the Centre but also miss to raise their voice.
The delimitation is nothing but enhancing or reducing the number of Parliamentary constituencies based on the population in any state. If we see the chronology …. in independent India the first delimitation occurred in 1951. 36.1 crores population : 494 seats. Then 43.9 crores: 522 seats in 1961. Afterwards 54.8 crores: 543 seats based on 1971 census.
The ratio of population growth between North and South had a lot of difference. The South religiously reduces the population but not the North. So the PMs of the country Indira Gandhi and Vajpayee hold the delimitation process for 25 + 25 years respectively. But the Northern states did not care about population control and the literacy rate also did not improve considerably. So if the delimitation is implemented it hampers badly the interests of Southern states.
When the issue was not all changed, why did the Central government want to implement delimitation? It is no secret that if the number of parliamentary seats grows in the North, the political gain for BJP is evident. Apart from Southern states, Odisha, West Bengal and Punjab also oppose the delimitation process for they sense danger for their interests.
The irony is that the Center conducted an exam and it wants to give presentations for the failed Northern states. It is nothing but punishing the Southern states. The people will agitate against the injustice.
